Nicolas Macrozonaris
Track & Field Career
Nicolas Macrozonaris is a Canadian Olympic athlete in track & field, and has won the 100 meter national title four times and once in the 200 meters. He was inspired to run track and field after watching Donovan Bailey win the 100 meters in the Olympic games in Atlanta. After watching his incredible race, it was from that point on he took the sport seriously. Few years later as a junior, he tied Ben Johnsons Canadian national record in the 50 meters running 5.83. The following year after 4 years of hard work and divining dedication, when Nicolas was only 19, he qualified for the Sydney Olympics 100-metres with a stunning time of 10.19 to join Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey.
His biggest moment as a sprinter came in 2003 when he ran 10.03 and knocked off the then world record holder American Tim Montgomery in Mexico, making Nicolas the third Fastest Canadian in history behind Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey who are both sharing the national record in 9.84.
In 2004 he qualified for the Athens Olympic games and finished 17th in the 100 meters out of 120 runners improving his position from his previous Olympic games in Sydney where he finished 45th respectively.
